Performing Arts

Prep students will build foundational singing and instrument skills on ukulele through exploration to express their ideas. They will practice and present a Harmony Day song at assembly.  We will start learning dance sequences to some popular songs. The students will build performance skills in the classroom and respond to what music they enjoy and why. We will inquire into expressing ourselves by using our imaginations. We then finish the year with class performances at the Christmas Concert.

Grade 1-2 students will develop musical ideas with voice and instruments and African body percussion. We will inquire into expressing ourselves by using musical signs and symbols. They will start developing instrument skills with whole class jams and further develop ukulele skills whilst starting to explore drumming, keyboard and bass guitar skills. We will develop sequenced dance moves and ideas to songs. They will start interpreting music and its purposes. We will finish the year with class performances at the Christmas Concert.

Grade 3-4 students will explore and express music ideas with voice and instrument skills whilst also looking at arranging and composing. They will keep developing instrument skills with whole class jams then start playing instruments in smaller groups. The students will continue interpreting music and its purposes. They will inquire into place and time by looking into different music styles and their evolution. We will do a performing arts dance unit on expression through dance looking into African body percussion and hip-hop. We then finish the year with class performances at the Christmas Concert.

Grade 5-6 students will inquire into expressing ourselves by writing lyrics and making a song. They will further explore and express music ideas with voice and instrument skills whilst also looking at arranging and composing. The students will further develop playing multiple instruments in groups. We will inquire into expressing ourselves by writing lyrics and making a song. Students also explore and create a performing arts piece to accompany sharing their knowledge for the exhibition or mini-exhibition. They will learn some hip-hop/popping/locking skills. We will finish the year with class performances at the Christmas Concert.
